Overview

The L5P intercooler pipe and boot kit is a direct-fit charge-piping upgrade designed to replace the restrictive factory hot-side and cold-side intercooler pipes on 2017–2019 Chevrolet/GMC 6.6L Duramax L5P trucks. Factory piping measures 2.5" in diameter and uses tight bends plus a hot-side resonator that limit charge-air flow. This kit steps the piping up to 3" throughout with smooth transitions and no resonator, measuring up to 55% less restrictive than stock.

Compatibility

  • 2017–2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD / 3500HD, 6.6L Duramax L5P
  • 2017–2019 GMC Sierra 2500HD / 3500HD, 6.6L Duramax L5P
Note: Does not fit 2020 and newer L5P trucks or any earlier Duramax engine family (LB7, LLY, LBZ, LMM, LML).

Key Features & Build Details

  • 3" piping with smooth transitions. The full 3" diameter is carried through both the hot and cold sides, and the bends are opened up compared to the factory routing.
  • Resonator-free hot side. The stock hot-side resonator is a flow obstruction between the turbo and the intercooler. It is not carried over on the replacement pipe.
  • Two-piece hot and cold sides. Each side splits into two sections so the piping can be worked into position around the engine bay instead of fought in as one long assembly.
  • Silicone boots with a synthetic inner layer. The innermost layer of each boot is a synthetic material with higher resistance to heat, pressure, fuel, and oil than standard silicone.
  • Constant-tension T-bolt clamps. These maintain clamping load on the boot as the joint heat cycles rather than relying on a single static torque setting.
  • CNC-machined quick-disconnect fitting. The cold-side connection uses a machined fitting supplied with a fresh O-ring and spring clip.
  • Retained IAT harness mounting. The factory intake air temperature sensor harness mounting location is preserved, unlike some aftermarket piping.
  • Two sensor bungs. Both can be drilled and tapped for boost, temperature, or other monitoring.

Performance Benefits

  • Increased charge-air flow between the turbo, intercooler, and intake, which supports greater power potential on a tuned or heavily loaded truck.
  • Lower pressure drop across the charge-piping system, so more of the boost the turbo produces reaches the engine.
  • Boots that hold up to repeated heat cycling, which helps prevent the leaks and blowouts that cost boost and trigger underboost codes.
  • Clamp and O-ring hardware that helps keep sealing consistent over time instead of loosening as the system cycles.
  • Sensor bungs that let you verify boost and intake air temperature at the pipe rather than relying on factory data alone.

Installation Notes

This is a direct bolt-on replacement for the factory intercooler piping. The two-piece design on both sides simplifies removal and installation in the engine bay. Boots, T-bolt clamps, and the quick-disconnect O-ring and spring clip are supplied with the kit. Retain and transfer the factory intake air temperature sensor and harness to the new piping. No tuning or recalibration is required for the kit to function with factory engine parameters.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need custom tuning or a programmer after installing these pipes?

No. The kit is a direct bolt-on replacement designed to work with factory engine parameters, so no tuning or recalibration is required. If the truck is already tuned, the piping change does not require a revised calibration on its own.

Will this kit fix or prevent factory boost leaks and blown boots?

It is designed to address the common failure point. The factory hot-side and cold-side boots degrade under sustained heat and heavy towing loads, which is where most L5P boost leaks originate. This kit uses multi-ply silicone boots with an oil- and heat-resistant inner liner and constant-tension T-bolt clamps, a combination intended to resist slippage and blowouts far better than the OEM setup. An existing leak elsewhere in the charge-air system will still need to be diagnosed separately.

Do these pipes increase the diameter compared to stock?

Yes. Factory L5P pipes measure a restrictive 2.5 inches. These are 3 inches throughout, with smooth mandrel-style transitions and the factory hot-side resonator removed.

Will this L5P intercooler pipe kit fit a 2020 or newer Duramax?

No. Fitment covers 2017–2019 Chevrolet and GMC 6.6L Duramax L5P trucks only. The charge-piping layout changed on later trucks.

Does the kit include boots and clamps, or do I need to reuse the factory ones?

Boots and constant-tension T-bolt clamps are included, along with a new O-ring and spring clip for the cold-side quick-disconnect fitting. Nothing from the factory piping needs to be reused except the intake air temperature sensor and its harness.

Can I add a boost gauge or temperature sensor to these pipes?

Yes. Two bungs are built into the piping and can be drilled and tapped for sensors.

Is an intercooler included with this kit?

No. This kit covers the hot-side and cold-side intercooler pipes, boots, and clamps. The intercooler itself is a separate component.
